News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ladakh this morning to review the situation of on-ground security. Ladakh has been the center of the standoff between the Indian Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army since early May.
PM Modi arrived in Leh, headquarters of the Indian Army’s 14 Corps, and was accompanied by Chief Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief MM Naravane.
Earlier, it was only informed that CDS Gen Bipin Rawat would visit Ladakh for a review of the tri-services preparedness and a first-hand understanding of the proposed de-escalation and disengagement process at the four stand-off points.
The news of PM Modi’s arrival in Ladakh only got out after he emerged out of the plane.
PM Modi’s sudden visit can be termed as a morale booster for the troops that are leading the stand-off in Ladakh’s Galwan valley and around Pangong lake.
He was briefed by the Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Y K Joshi and XIV Corps Commander Lt Gen Harinder Singh at Nimu Army headquarters near Leh.
Located at 11,000 feet, this can be considered as one of the tough terrains which is surrounded by the Zanskar range and on the banks of the Indus.
PM Modi will also address soldiers at Thiksey near Leh and visit the soldiers injured in the June 15 violent scrap with China’s People’s Liberation Army.
