National Desk: Indian Security Forces on Thursday morning gunned down one suspected militant in Meej Pampore area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. The identity of the militant is still unknown.
Apart from this another gun battle is underway between militants and law enforcing agencies in the neighbouring district of Shopian.
An unidentified police official informed PTI that security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Meej in Pampore area of Pulwama in South Kashmir this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area. He also said that the militants fired upon the search party which led to an encounter.
One terrorist has been killed so far, the official said, adding the operation was still going on. According to preliminary reports, two to three militants are believed to be trapped at the encounter site.
Meanwhile, another encounter started between militants and security forces in Shopian district’s Munand area.
Police and security forces are on the job,” the official said, adding that there were no reports of any casualties so far.
Last week, Dilbag Singh, the DGP of J&K Police had informed that 22 militants including six top commanders were eliminated by the security forces in nine operations extending over 14 days. He also added that around 150 to 250 militants could be present in the Kashmir region and 125 to 150 in Jammu region.
