News Desk: The government of India announced the ban of 59 Chinese apps in the country. This announcement was made on Monday, a day after the popular short video application TikTok was taken down from the Google Play Store and also from the Apple App Store.
While the TikTok app has been officially banned in the country, people who have downloaded the app can still use and post videos on the app.
The ban comes amidst the rising tension between India and China over disputed borders. The tension rose drastically after the recent in Galwan valley.
In a press release, the Ministry of Information Technology stated that the ban was made to protect data of Indian users from being transmitted to servers outside the country.
The press release states: “The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures”.
