The Assam government has decided to hold a grand celebration of Lachit Barphukan’s 400th birth anniversary in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The event will take place on November 23, 24, and 25, 2022. Several dignitaries will attend, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and others.
In addition, 400 students and 300 eminent from Assam will attend the programme in New Delhi.
On November 16, the Assam government released a theme song in memory of Lachit Barphukan.
The theme song was launched at Janata Bhavan in Guwahati by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Earlier that month, on October 26, the Assam government also launched an app where people could write about Barphukan. According to CM Sarma, 1.5 lakh write-ups have been submitted in the application so far.
Various extensive programmes are scheduled across Assam from November 18 to November 25.
On November 18, several district-level programmes will be held. A parade will be held by the police and NCC (National Cadet Corps) cadets.
An essay writing competition will be held on November 19 at universities, colleges, and schools throughout the state.
The government will purchase fifty bighas of land from the people of Jorhat on November 20. The government will compensate for the acquired land with 12 crores. The aforementioned property will be used to create a memorial for Lachit Barphukan.
Other events, such as sports, cultural events, debate competitions, extempore speeches, and so on, will take place on November 21 and 22.
