A team of Tamil Nadu government officials recently visited Assam to study the Assam model of urban poverty eradication, at the request of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Notably, the Assam model of urban poverty eradication has received national acclaim and Pan-India recognition.
The team from NULM, Tamil Nadu, which included the Joint Director, State Mission Managers, MIS analysts, and young professionals, met with officials from the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), Assam to learn about the department’s various initiatives. The team also interacted with members of self-help groups such as weaving, pickles, ethnic Assamese food, and mushrooms, which are run by women self-help groups in the state’s urban areas.
Meanwhile, officials at the NULM, Assam, have stated that a team from the neighbouring state of Mizoram will be visiting Assam soon to study the Assam model of eradicating urban poverty.
The team also went to the Guwahati Livelihoods Centre, which is run by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and is where self-help groups display and sell their products
