The Union Health Ministry has urged all the states and Union Territories to make black fungus or Mucormycosis a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
This means all confirmed or suspected cases of black fungus, a condition seen in recovering Covid patients, have to be reported to the health ministry.
In a letter to the states and UTs, the ministry wrote, “All government and private health facilities and medical colleges have to follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis, management of mucormycosis.”
Meanwhile, Telangana and Rajasthan have already declared black fungus as an epidemic.
