At least 13 Maoists were killed by security forces in a fierce gunbattle in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli on Friday. The operation was carried out by the elite C-60 commandoes.
According to Gadchiroli Deputy inspector general police (DIG) Sandip Patil, the encounter started at around 4 am in Paithi jungles under the Kotmi outpost of the district. Based on inputs about the Maoists gathering in the Paithi forest for a meeting, the C-60 commandoes launched a search operation which converted into an encounter after the Maoists opened fired on the commandoes.
Meanwhile, Ankit Goyal, Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli informed that the encounter lasted for an hour after which the remaining Maoists escaped into the forest. A search operation is on in the nearby he added.
