One step by NCC cadets towards saving the environment

NCC cadets of the North Eastern Region took a major step towards saving mother earth by keeping the environment clean. More than 150 volunteer cadets of 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC belonging to various universities, colleges, and schools of Assam got together at their unit located inside the Guwahati University campus to carry out an awareness drive for the local populace.

Motivated and guided by their Commanding officer Group Captain Robin Vishoyi they started the campaign from Gauhati University campus to Pandu beach on river Brahmaputra below Saraighat bridge (southern side) at 1000hrs on 06 April.

Cadets had themselves made and carried several paintings and posters on the importance of keeping our rivers clean, reduction in the use of plastic, the importance of the Plog march, the importance of plastic waste management/recycling of plastic waste, and several lessons for our fellow citizens regarding the importance of keeping our lakes, rivers and sea beaches clean.

During the long Plog march of around 5 km, the cadets cleaned the plastic garbage from the roads, streets, and beach area. Cadets were able to attract the attention of the maximum public with appropriate slogans(related to the community development service).

They also stopped at many shops en route and educated the shopkeepers to stop the use of single-use plastic bags and use paper, cotton, or jute bags instead. The local populace got immensely influenced, benefitted, and educated on the importance of the awareness drive and promised to keep the streets, roads, surroundings, and water bodies clean and clear of plastic garbage. Cadets also wrote and left some important messages for our countrymen and the people of Assam on the sand at the beach after cleaning the area. Plastic garbage collected was sent to the recycling plant near Pokhara.

When questioned by the news reporters and media personnel, the cadets of the largest uniformed youth organization in the world (NCC) said ‘Please give us a better future by saying no to plastic‘.
