AFSPA extended in Nagaland for another six months

On Thursday, the Central Government announced the whole state of Nagaland to be as a ‘disturbed area’ for six months with effect from 30th December 2021 under AFSPA.

According to the Center, the State of Nagaland is still in a disturbed and dangerous condition, so the use of armed forces in the aid of the civil power is necessary.

The decision was taken after a high-level committee was constituted by the Union Government to examine the possibility of withdrawal of AFSPA.

The AFSPA empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone without any prior warrant. It also gives immunity to the forces if they shoot someone dead.
