40 Children Rescued by Assam Police in a Major Child Trafficking Breakthrough

In a big success for the Assam Police against child trafficking rackets, 40 children were rescued in a series of operations in the last three days. During the rescue operation, Assam Police has also arrested two accused in connection with child trafficking. Two adults were also rescued from the clutches of the traffickers during the operation, which puts the total number of people rescued to 42.

The children, rescued from the West Bengal and Sikkim border, are of the age group of 7 to 10 years. As per our information, the children are being brought back to Assam via Alipurduar. The children trafficked belonged to three villages in the Chirang district of Assam.

Talking to Headline8, a senior police official of Chirang district informed: “Our police team had a three-day operation and it is a huge racket or we can say that the child trafficking market has grasped the whole North-East. We are trying our best to organize rescue operations as much as possible. This is just the beginning of our fight against the human trafficking racket. As of now, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has already arrived and we are discussing the matter.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be interacting with the rescued children after they reach Assam Administrative Staff College. Furthermore, the Assam CM will hold a meeting in the Staff College to discuss the increasing cases of Child Trafficking. The meeting will be attended by high-ranking police officials including the DGP and officials from different departments.
