6 arrested for MLALAD fund misuse

Assam police arrested six accused of misuse of funds from MLA local area development in Assam’s Mandia Development Block in Barpeta.

The accused were identified as Yusufur Rahman (59) – the then BDO of Mandia Development Block, Jadav Choudhury (62) – the then BDO of Mandia development Block, Ainur Rahman (58) – JE, Mandia Development Block, Abdur Rezzak (38) – president of the construction committee, Mujahidur Rahman (35) – president of the construction committee and Sahjamal Ali (41) – president of the construction committee.

According to a statement, an amount of Rs 25,08,323 has been misappropriated by the officials and staff of Mandia Development Block.

A total amount of Rs 65,00,000 was released for various schemes were released for the construction of roads in the region. Upon a regular inquiry, it was found that more than Rs 25 lakh has been misappropriated without execution of works as per plan and estimate.

An FIR was lodged on the basis of findings of the inquiry and later six accused were arrested from Mangaldai, Guwahati, and Barpeta simultaneously by the teams of chief minister special vigilance cell, Assam.

The accused were forwarded to custody and will be brought in police remand for further investigation.
