A tribute to Patharughat Kisan Martyrs: 2.20crore announced for a monument and documentary film

Nearly 140 unarmed peasants were killed by the British on 28 January 1894 in Assam for protesting against the high taxation inland revenue levied by the colonial administration, when the military open fire at the people. This is a glorious chapter in the Indian Heritage Struggle. The ideals of those brave farmers also inspired the Indian freedom struggle. Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora attends 128th Farmer Martyrs’ Day celebrations celebrated centrally today in tribute to the martyrs of Patharughat Ran. As a tribute to the martyrs’ Minister Atul Bora announced Rs 2.20 crore for the construction of a monuments and documentary film. The flag was hoisted by Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sharma and Darang superintendent of police Sushant Biswa Sarma delivered a tribute to the martyr. Sipajhar MLA Parmanand Rajvanshi delivered the welcome speech at the meeting and book launch meeting held on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day.
