AASU visits Assam-Mizoram border: Demands justice

The Assam Police on Tuesday stopped the All Assam Students Union (AASU) leaders in Dholai when they were on their way to take stock of the situation Assam-Mizoram border following violent clashes.

The six-member team was led by AASU general secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah. Meanwhile, the police force cited security reasons behind the prohibition.

Speaking to the media, Shankar Jyoti Baruah said, “I wanted to check if the situation has subsided to normalcy or it is still volatile. But in the name of security reasons they were stopped some 10 km before the destination.”

Adding Baruah also said, “After speaking to few locals we came to realize that in the aftermath of that cross border violence, several BJP politicians came to visit the scene, whereas we are being prevented from visiting the same.”

The team of AASU has also met with the family members of the Assam Police members who had lost their lives in the cross-border violence. After meeting the family members, the AASU general secretary said that the family did not seek financial assistance or any sort of held but they seek justice for their lost ones.
