NEWS DESK: 10 more animals in the Kaziranga National Park lost their lives to the ongoing floods in Assam. With this, the total animal casualty due to the floods has climbed up to 86.
According to the forest officials, 105 animals have been rescued till now, while 5 animals are undergoing treatment at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC).
“A rhino, a Royal Bengal Tiger and three hog deer are under treatment at CWRC. Altogether, 105 animals have been rescued by the forest officials, CWRC team and locals so far,” a park official said. He also stated that of the 7 animals that died on Friday, two were wild boars, one was a hog deer and another one was a porcupine.
According to a report by the park authorities, 85% of the park’s total area is underwater with 80 anti-poaching camps still submerged.
In the meantime, the Brahmaputra River is still above the water-level at Neematighat. However, according to the Central Water Commission, the water level has been showing a receding trend in the last 24 hours.
