Another Sexual Incident at IIT-G: Five person arrested

Another shocking incident has come to light at IIT-Guwahati. A student hailing from Gujarat has alleged of sexual assault by unidentified seniors of the institute after she was found unconscious outside her hostel late on Sunday evening.

The institute has already formed an internal committee to look into this matter.
The victim was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on the midnight of March 29.
According to doctors, “the victim was in shock, and drugs were detected in her body. Drugs like these are usually used in cases of sexual abuse.”

A Case has been registered at the Amingaon police station based on GMCH’s report after the victim came to the hospital.
A Statement issued by IIT-Guwahati on Saturday said, “An unfortunate incident involving a female student was brought to the notice of the institute on March 28. The student was rushed to the Institute hospital where she was examined and was advised to go to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for necessary medical examination. Later the student was immediately taken to GMC.”
The statement also included that the student and her guardians were informed that they could file an FIR, which they refused presently as they want the institute to take up the case.

The IIT-G statement added that a fact-finding committee, which was constituted on March 29, submitted its report to the institute on April 2, based on which the institute has filed an FIR.

Headline8 has contacted a few students of IIT-G, “The victim is currently kept in the medical care unit at IIT-G. A group of professors has also been trying to mislead the victim by getting a false testimony of habitual drug abuse.”
Superintendent of Police, Kamrup Hitesh Ch Roy, said, “A case has been registered at the Amingaon police station, we are doing our investigation on this matter so as of now we can’t disclose any inputs on this case.
