Anti-CAA activist Akhil Gogoi will be withdrawing his nomination from the Mariani constituency.
The anti-CAA activist will now contest only from the Sivasagar seat in the upcoming Assam assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, working President of the newly floated party, Bhasco De Saikia stated;
“Though Akhil Gogoi would have won Mariani very easily as it is his home constituency, but we took this decision only to help form an anti-BJP government in Assam. This step has now ensured that BJP will be defeated in Mariani.”
Congress has fielded its three-time MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi from Mariani. It was anticipated that Rupjyoti Kurmi could be directly contesting against Gogoi.
With Gogoi withdrawing his nomination from Mariani, the sitting Congress MLA will fight against BJP’s Ramani Tanti, a less prominent face in the region.
A tall leader for whom ‘jati’ comes before ‘party’(political).
A leader whose devotion & love towards his people n d state is paramount before his own liberty n freedom.
