In the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, nominations of 284 candidates have been found valid for the first phase polls.
However, nominations of ten candidates have been rejected. The first phase Assembly election will be held in 47 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) across 12 districts on March 27.
The actual number of candidates contesting the polls will be determined on March 12. It is also the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers.
March 12 is also the last date for filing nomination papers for the second-phase polls slated on April 1.
The scrutiny of these papers will be on March 15. The second-phase polls will be held in 39 LACs across 13 districts. Notification for the third-phase Assembly polls will also be issued on March 12. The last date for filing of nomination papers for this phase is March 19 while scrutiny of the nomination papers is on March 20. The polling for the third phase is slated for April 6 in 40 LACs across 12 districts.
Meanwhile, the election campaign is gradually gaining momentum in the state. Apart from senior leaders, the political parties are also roping in actors and singers. Actors Ravi Kishan and singer Manoj Tiwari will campaign for BJP candidates in Assam. The Congress and other parties would also engage cine stars to woo the voters. Most of the parties have already engaged the local actors, singers, musicians of Assam in campaigning with catchy music.
