Assam government in its recent cabinet meeting has taken massive administrative reforms. The move is directed to remove all official bottlenecks that slow government projects and schemes.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday during a press meet after the cabinet meeting stated that the decision was taken to improve the speed and efficiency of all the departments. The key decisions taken are –
1. For proposals costing up to Rs. 2 crore a department committee will approve and there is no need to send it to the finance department. The department commissioner will head this committee.
2. For projects and proposals costing up to Rs. 2 crore to Rs. 5 crore a standing finance committee will do the approval. The Chief Secretary will chair the meeting and file need not be sent to the finance department. The meeting will be held every Friday.
2. For projects worth Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 100 crore the finance minister will chair the standing finance committee and the department commissioners will be member secretary.
This committee will grant the final approval and it will be held every Thursday.
4. For proposals costing above Rs. 100 crore the department head will directly meet the cabinet for necessary approval.
