Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday at the State Legislative Assembly made a very controversial statement on Akhil Gogoi, the newly elected MLA from Sivasagar.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Raijor Dal President was undergoing treatment for mental health issues.
This statement by Himanta Biswa Sarma sparked huge uproar and controversy among the opposition party.
Akhil Gogoi’s party – Raijor Dal stated that the CM’s remarks were insulting and also a breach of the MLA’s privilege.
Assam Congress party has also condemned on the remarks made by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) released a statement condemning Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remark on the Raijor Dal President.
The committee has termed this incident as ‘unfortunate’. APCC also stated that Assam Chief Minister’s remark at the Assembly is ‘highly insensitive’, ‘undignified’ for a person who is occupying the highest position in the state.
Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi termed Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remark as ‘parliamentary inappropriate’ and ‘bad taste’ coming from a Chief Minister.

APCC President Ripun Bora has also termed the statement ‘extremely unparliamentary and ‘inappropriate’.
APCC Media Department Chairperson, Bobbeeta Sharma also stated – “Whether Akhil Gogoi should be in jail or in a hospital or whether he is fit enough to be present in Assembly is to be decided by the court.”
