Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) at Sonapur near Guwahati in Assam has been declared as a containment zone.
The LNIPE has been converted into a containment zone following the detection of COVID-19 cases among the students and teachers of the institute.
The Institute will remain as a containment zone for the next 14 days.
Containment zone will remain in force for the institute from April 8 to April 21.
The notification was issued by the Kamrup-Metro district administration late on Wednesday night, converting the LNIPE into a containment zone.
Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu in a notification stated:
“In view of detection of COVID-19 positive cases at LNIPE, Sonapur under Kamrup Metropolitan District, in the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the entire area of the LNIPE premises is declared as a CONTAINMENT ZONE for the next 14 days w.e.f. today and the Circle Officer, Sonapur Revenue Circle is directed to seal the area immediately.
Any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified CONTAINMENT ZONE are barred for the next seven days.
Any movement of any unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect.
Any violation of the order will attract action under the provision of the “Assam Covid-19 Regulations, 2020”, “Disaster Management Act, 2005”, “The Epidemic Disease Act, 1897”, and other relevant laws of the nation. “
Notably, as many as 104 COVID-19 positive cases were detected in and around Guwahati on Wednesday.
Assam on Wednesday recorded a massive spike in its COVID-19 caseload following the detection of 195 positive cases.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in Assam has shot up to 847.
