The Assam government has decided to introduce an new independent department for the preservation and promotion of Indigenous Faith and Culture.
This decision was taken during the special cabinet meeting on the completion of 60 days of the newly formed BJP government in Assam.
Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the department will be an independent body and will not be under any ministry.
“Assam has a number of tribes with their unique customs and rituals. In order to preserve and promote this rich heritage the cabinet has decided to form a new department for Indigenous Faith and Culture. The finance minister is requested to allocate a substantial budget for the department.” stated Himanta Biswa Sarma.
