Assam Government Ramps Up Paediatric ICUs Across State

Ahead of the possible Third Wave of Covid 19 pandemic, the Assam government has decided to set up Paediatric ICUs (PICU) in all the Medical College and Hospitals and district hospitals.

State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday night held a crucial meeting with health officials. Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta was also present at the meeting.
While reviewing the prevailing Covid 19 situation in the state, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Health Department to ramp up Covid care infrastructure for the children.
He also proposed to set up Paediatric ICUs (PICU) in all the Medical College and Hospitals and District Hospitals.

As per information provided by CM:
• 30 bed PICU will be set up at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
• 20 bed PICU at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
• 20 bed PICU at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH).
• 15 bed each at all other Medical Colleges & Hospitals.
• 5 bed each in all district hospitals.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also advised all medical authorities to train paramedics for Paediatric ICUs.
He also gave the assurance that the state government will fill up all the existing vacancies for PICUs to ramp up medical facilities in Assam.
