Assam Education department on March 1 has clarified that all the students from Class 1 to 9 should be promoted to the next class whether they appear in the examination or not.
The Education Department Commissioner Secretary issued an order which states that schools could hold annual examinations from the first week of March. However, it not mandatory for students to appear in the examination.
A part of the order states, “In view of the lockdown in the state of Assam from the month of March till November 2020, the schools were physically closed and online classes were conducted by the schools and the Education Department through Digital devices and due to Digital Divide, many of the students could not afford online classes.
Further, as per SOPs issued by the Education Department from time to time, attendance of students was not made compulsory and was based on parental consent.
Now, considering all aspects and also the fact that the students do not lose any academic year, Educational Institutions can conduct Annual Examinations physically in schools, but it is not compulsory, and the Annual exams can be conducted in the first week of March 2021.”
The order issued by the Assam Education Department is also applicable to all non-Government Educational Institutions in the state.
