The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has deducted that the violence along the Assam Mizoram borders at Lailapur in Cachar district was due to a huge intelligence failure.
AASU strongly condemned the Mizoram police for their part in the alleged firing and violence on Assam police, an incident that has left at least five jawans dead. It has demanded the Mizoram government take immediate and stern action against the culprits.
Speaking on this issue, AASU president Dipanko Nath said, “How can be such a huge intelligence failure? It’s completely (a) failure of the home ministry and the Central intelligence who failed to intercept the happenings there. Assam police were only protecting the state’s own soil in (a) peaceful way and Mizoram police opened fire upon them. It’s highly condemnable.” “Mizoram government should immediately bring the culprits to book. Also, we want to tell that Assam will not allow anyone to take away one inch of its own soil,” he added.
AASU asked the union home minister Amit Shah to immediately ensure central intervention in this dispute and requested the Centre to devise a permanent resolution to this matter.
“There is a general brotherhood amongst the north-eastern states and moreover, all the northeastern states are ruled by NDA alliance parties. So there should not be any trouble to solve the matter. Such incidents should not repeat anymore,” Nath said. AASU has also informed that it has been communicating with other student bodies across the other northeastern states to discuss this matter.
