Amidst the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic in Assam, the Rupsi airport is all set to begin on May 8.

The Rupsi airport will now provide the people of lower Assam with direct flights to Guwahati and Kolkata.
As per information from the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the newly introduced domestic airline “FLYBIG” will start operating in the North-East region from May 8. The flight service will connect Rupsi with Guwahati and Kolkata.
Other destinations of North-East will soon be covered.

A trial flight was conducted on the Guwahati-Rupsi route by FLYBIG Airlines.
The airport is developed under the RCS-UDAN scheme. Flight services are scheduled to operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Notably, Rupsi Airport was built during World War – II and was used for military purposes.
The airport is now all set to become operational after a gap of 38 years.
