Guwahati: Health and Finance Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a press meet at Janata Bhawan on Friday.
In the Press meet, Dr. Sarma made some interesting announcements.
The Finance Minister announced that the Assam government has decided to provide Rs. 50,000 to 2 lakh youths of the state.
Dr. Sarma stated that Rs. 50 thousand will be provided as a chit capital under the renewed ‘Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) Yojana.’
The members of self-help groups or joint liability groups who register before September 1 will receive the amount. The members below the age of 40 years and with a minimum qualification of matriculation will be considered as eligible for this scheme.
The government has earmarked Rs. 1000 cr for this scheme.
In addition to this, the Health Minister also clarified that COVID tests would continue to be free and treatment in general wards of government hospitals including plasma treatment would continue to be free. Only those staying in paying cabins would have to pay the charges for the paying cabin. Treatment for those staying in paying cabins would also be free.
The minister further informed that people who want their COVID-19 test results within 24 hours would have to pay a sum of Rs. 2400.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also pointed out the worrisome COVID-19 situation in the state. He said that around 3000 people are getting infected with the virus every day.
People found without masks would be fined Rs. 500 the first time and thereafter if someone is caught without a mask for the second time, they would be fined Rs. 1000, he stated.
