In a recent event, an affidavit filed by National Register of Citizens (NRC) State Co-ordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma revealed that more than four thousand foreigners were included in the final list of the NRC.
Assam Public Works (APW) President Abhijit Sharma raised a serious allegation against NRC ex- state coordinator Prateek Hajela. The APW President also alleged that around 80 lakhs foreigners were included in the final NRC list, published in 2019.
Speaking to media Abhijit Sharma said, “in the affidavit filed by present state coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma to the Guwahati High Court, we came to know about the fact of inclusion of foreigners in NRC.
But in reality, more than 80 lakhs foreigners were included in the final 2019 Assam NRC list. It’s not just 4000 or 8000 but more than 80 lakhs Bangladeshis were included thanks to the team of Prateek Hajela and some high-level officials as his accomplices.
We were always against this, the 2019 NRC should be discarded and a new NRC should be constructed with proper re-verification.”
