Regarding Assam Government’s zero tolerance against illegal drugs dealing the Narcotic Control Bureau has praised Assam Police and asked all the other states to take the example of Assam. The Deputy Director General (Operation) of NCB Sanjay Kumar Singh in the Capital City New Delhi, in an interview to The Assam Tribune said that “The Assam Government is doing tremendous job as far as fighting drug menace is concerned. In fact all states should adopt Assam as a role model to tackle the drug menace.”
The Special DGP of Assam Police GP Singh took to Twitter regarding this. The DGP has congratulated the team of Assam Police for their tremendous act.
The Assam Police has been adhere to take strict actions against illegal drugs trafficking. Recently many cases of illegal drugs dealing have come to light where the Assam Police has taken outstanding actions against drugs. The Assam Police is praiseworthy after drug dealers from several places fell under the Assam Police’s trap. After the excellent effort in their string operation the Assam Police has become the strongest shield against the drug traders.
Within the month of February cases of Kokrajhar police arresting 2 Drug dealers after seizing value over crores rupees of Ganja, apprehending four drug dealers at Hailakandi with around 1,477 kg Ganja, 1.28 kg heroin, and 33 tablet packets, arresting 2 at Jorabat with the possession of 7.7 kg of Ganja, apprehending two dealers from Sonari, seizing 11 kg of drugs along the Assam-Tripura border and also cases of drug dealing in some places of Guwahati such as Basistha, Noonmati came to light. All the effort of the Assam Police is noteworthy here. The recent news of the Assam Rifles to be empowered the Special Additional Police Power to check and fight the drug menace from Myanmar is also a very praiseworthy decision.
On the other hand it is to note that during such operations of the Narcotic Department several innocent people such as activist Kirti Kamal Bora falsely accused of drugs dealing has been attacked by the police officials. After that incident the Narcotic Department was dismissed from the Nagaon Police.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Plea has been moved before Gauhati High Court by Arif Jwadder, a Delhi-based Lawyer seeking an independent probe against the alleged fake encounters of the Assam Police. Furthermore, this request asserts that in excess of 80 fake encounters have taken place between the Assam police and the alleged accused from May 2021 to date resulting in 28 deaths and more than 48 injuries. On the other hand to cover such practice by the Assam Police DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta stated that the state is witnessing Police Action not encounter.
Now the question arises that, is Assam Police really praiseworthy that the other states should take Assam as an example or adopting Assam Model would be the reason for river of blood of innocent people.
