Guwahati: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has made some major changes in the curriculum of the Higher Secondary Commerce Stream. The change will be effective in the High Secondary First Year Batch from the academic year 2020-21.
Therefore, the subject ‘Banking’ has been renamed to ‘Finance’. However, the syllabus will remain the same. Also, ‘Commercial Mathematics & Statistics’ has been renamed as ‘Bussiness Mathematics & Statistics’ with no change in syllabus.
In a major development, business studies and accountancy will not be considered as major subjects. The students will have to study both subjects. As per the new set of rules, the students shall have to secure at least the passing marks in both the subjects. The notification of the AHSEC also stated that “result purpose”, the marks of the ‘Best Three’ elective subjects will be considered in their division along with the core subjects — English and MIL/Alternative English.
The announcement comes in the midst of the growing speculation over the uncertainty in the reopening of educational institutions in the state.
