State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that Akhil Gogoi, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader was arrested due to his links with the Maoist factions.
The NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) Convener was on his way to the “Prantiya Pradhan-Acharchaya Karmasala” in Chandrapur, Guwahati when he spoke to the media regarding the arrest of the KMSS leader.
“Akhil Gogoi was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links with Maoist groups and not for his stance against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Many people have been linking the arrest of Akhil with CAA, however, all these allegations are false.” the BJP leader stated.
Earlier on Thursday, Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea was rejected by the Guwahati High Court. The KMSS leader and eminent CAA protestor was arrested in December 2019 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in Guwahati.
