The The All Assam Indigenous Assamese Muslim Organisations and the Sadou Asom Goria-Moria-Deshi Jatiya Parishad, the state’s leading Indigenous Assamese Muslim
organisation, held protests across the state on Saturday, demanding that jihadi elements be expelled
from Assam with their tentacles.

The organisation also demanded strict action against ‘jihadi supporters,’ who allegedly threatened noted
lawyer Nekibur Zaman for speaking out against Jihadis in the wake of multiple arrests in Assam for
alleged ties to a Bangladesh-based terror organisation.

Members of the organisation protested in Guwahati, holding placards in front of the city’s headquarters.
“We demand that the Assam government take strict measures to ensure that no one with Jihadi ties
escapes.

Fundamentalist groups’ activities that threaten the long-standing harmony of the Assamese
community must be suppressed “Sahid Ali Ahmed, the organization’s joint general secretary, stated
Zaman while speaking to a national daily said that he received the first message on WhatsApp earlier
this week, in which some communal and destructive words were directed at him.

“Within five to ten minutes of blocking the number, I received another message on my phone. They asked why I had blocked the number after the first message. The second was a direct threat, warning me that they would
not spare me “ Zaman stated adding that an FIR has been lodged at the Bhangagarh police station here.
