An all-party meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, to discuss the COVID-19 scenario in the state. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and representatives of other political parties were also present in the meeting.
In the all-party meeting, the detection of B.1.617 strain or the Indian double mutant (L452R and E484Q) strain of SARS-Cov-2 in Assam was discussed.
“I urged representatives of all the political parties to encourage and promote #COVID19 appropriate behaviour among the public, while adhering to the protocol of ‘Test, Trace, Treat’. We shall work unitedly in the spirit of Team Assam to defeat the virus,” CM Sonowal wrote after the meeting.

Also, Himanta Biswa Sarma after the meeting spoke to the media and said, “In the meeting, we have briefed about the present scenario including emergence of Indian double mutant strain in Assam. We have taken advice from various political parties. We will work together with all the political parties so that we can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our state.”
