News Desk: Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday. Thereby, Mr. Laskar becomes the sixth BJP MLA to get infected by the virus. He also represents Sonai constituency of Assam
The lawmaker shared his COVID-19 positive report on Facebook. The MLA informed that swab sample test which came back positive. Haque, however, said that all his family members have tested negative for the virus.
“With a very sad heart I would like to inform that I have been tested Covid-19 positive (+ve) from the first swab sample test few minutes back. I was not feeling well was since morning (sic),” the Facebook post read.
Mr. Laskar also urged the people who have come in contact with him in the last 1 week to get themselves tested.
According to reports, the driver of Aminul Haque Laskar has also tested positive for COVID-19.
The BJP MLA has been admitted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. A team of doctors is monitoring his health parameters.
In the meantime, MLAs Krishnendu Paul, Bolin Chetia, Narayan Deka, Nabanita Handique, and Atul Bora (Senior) had tested positive for COVID-19.
