The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) scam which had rocked the state in the past has come to the limelight again. This time around reports reveal inconsistencies regarding the candidates clearing the interview without even appearing in it, candidates scoring more marks in the tabulation sheet, etc.
Now, the police will investigate all the people involved in the signing of tabulation sheets, mark sheets and scrutiny sheets.
In the meantime, the inquiry commission has already summoned several candidates for investigation. The summoned candidates include gazetted officers- Achurjya Jibon Baruah, Hemen Das, Bhaskar Ojha, Swarup Kumar Bhattacharya, Kalyan Kumar Das, Farooq Ahmed, Nandini Kakati, Pushkal Gogoi, Deepti Mali and Yuvraj Barthakur. One of the summoned officers is a son of former DIG of Assam Police. Two relatives of a journalist are also reportedly on the list of summoned officers.
The court has already granted permission to the police to investigate against them.
It may be mentioned that the answer books of 300 candidates who appeared during the years 2013-14 will be reviewed. Of these, 202 answer sheets are from 2013 and 159 are from 2014.
Out of 241 candidates who appeared for the APSC examination in 2013, 39 have been arrested earlier for clearing the exam by fraudulent means. On the other hand, 180 candidates cleared the exam in 2014, out of which 21 have been arrested for using fraudulent means.
