The date December 2 is considered as a special day of Assam state. The day is celebrated as ‘Asom Divas’, a tribute to the first Ahom King, Chaolung Sukaphaa.
The day ‘Asom Divas’ is also called ‘Sukaphaa Divas’ and is celebrated each and every year and is considered as a regional public day in Assam.
People of Assam started celebrating ‘Asom Divas’ in 1996 as a symbol of the arrival of the first Ahom king Sukaphaa in Assam. He is still considered as the messenger of God and legend has it that Sukaphaa was a descendent of God Khulung.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to pay his respectful tributes to the great king.
“Respectful tributes to the architect of Bor Asom, the legendary Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha on #AsomDiwas. May his ideals keep guiding us in building a strong and prosperous Assam.”
The minister will also take part in the State Level Asom Divas celebration which will be held at Dhemechi High School in Moran.

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid his tributes to Ahom king Chaolung Sukaphaa through Twitter.
