Assam: Brahmaputra’s water level rises up after incessant rainfall

Brahmaputra

Following days of nonstop rain, the Brahmaputra River’s streams in Assam’s Dibrugarh district surged in water level on Monday.

Numerous portions of Dibrugarh are waterlogged as a result of recent heavy rain, and some low-lying areas are experiencing flash flood-like conditions.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Sunday that the country’s various states are likely to continue to experience severe rain.

“Heavy rainfall spell likely to continue over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan during next 2 days. Heavy rainfall spell over Tamil Nadu & Rayalaseema during next 5 days and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Telangana during next 24 hours,” tweeted IMD.

Schools for all students up to class 12 remained closed due to the weather department’s severe rainfall warning for Monday in some districts of Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand, heavy downpour has resulted in flooding in multiple areas in the Northeastern states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, causing disruption in traffic movement and trouble for tourists stranded in the states.

Landslides and road blockade has caused a major worry for the commuters who are stuck inside their vehicles while rubble clearance continues by the district administration and Border Road Organisation personnel.
