The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Monday arrested a total of 21 teachers across the state for embezzling scholarship funds of minority students.
The CID during various raids on Monday arrested seven accused each from Goalpara and Darrang, six from Kamrup metro, and one from Dhubri. The accused include- two women, four head-teachers, three owners of CSP, one teacher, two inspectors of school and ten brokers. Three laptops, 217 photographs, 104 certificates, and eleven passbooks have been seized from them
Addressing the media, top CID officials including Inspector General of Police of CID Surendra Kumar informed that misappropriation of around ten crore rupees was carried out in the pre-matriculation scholarship fund.
A team of 51 police personnel is presently conducting an investigation in different districts in the state in this connection, the officials added.
