News Desk: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 31 presented Natasurjya Phani Award for the year 2020. At a function in Tezpur, renowned playwright Aishwarya Kakati was felicitated with the Natasurjya Phani award. Actor Bhabesh Baruah was also felicitated with the Natasurjya award.
The function was held at the historic Baan Theatre in Tezpur on July 31. The award comprises of a sarai, man bastra, commendation, and a cheque of Rs. 2 Lakh.
The function was organized by the Cultural Affairs Department in association with Sonitpur District Administration. During the function, Sarbananda Sonowal said that under Infrastructure Development Project, Rs. 1.5 was assigned for the preservation of the Samadhi Kshetra of Natasurjya Phani Sarma.
The CM also announced the construction of a state-of-the-art museum at Tezpur. The museum will be constructed in memory of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwal, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Natyasurjya Phani Sarma, and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.
Sarbananda Sonowal offered his tributes to iconic actor, playwright, and director Natasurjya Phani Sarma. He also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the historic Baan Theatre complex.
MP (TEZPUR) Pallab Lochan Das, Padma Hazarika, Brindaban Goswami, and many others were present during the ceremony.
Aishwarya Kakati started his journey in the theatre world in 1969. He also contributed to the mobile theatre. He established himself in the national level theatre world.
Actor Bhabesh Baruah also performed in almost every theatre group of Assam.
Minister of State Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley was also present during the function. He stated that the Government of Assam has taken adequate steps in giving due recognition to art and artistes in Assam.
