Assam CM to introduced English as a Medium of Instruction for Maths, Science from class six

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the school education department on Sunday to introduce English as a medium of instruction for science and mathematics for classes VI to XII, while continuing to teach both subjects in Assamese.

On Sunday, CM Sarma conducted a thorough review of the Education Department. Ranoj Pegu, the Minister of Education, was also present at the meeting.

“Held a meeting with officials of the Secondary Education Department in presence of Cabinet colleague Dr Ranoj Pegu. Discussed issues including school amalgamation, infrastructure, new service rules, and the department’s role in successful implementation of Har Ghar Tiranga initiative,”Sarma tweeted. He reviewed various steps taken in elementary education, Samagra Siksha, Adarsha Vidyalayas, and Technical and Secondary Education.

The Chief Minister reviewed progress in the implementation of the e-office, the disposal of files under Mission Sabdhavana, recruitment and promotion, school amalgamation, school infrastructure improvements, and so on.

Sarma directed that school amalgamation be completed within a specific timeframe in accordance with RTE guidelines. He also directed that English be introduced as a medium of instruction for Science and Maths between classes VI and XII, while both subjects be taught in Assamese.

During Durga Puja, the Chief Minister also directed the implementation of a special Gyanjyoti programme for students from 97 Tea Garden Adarsh Vidyalayas.
