Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta Visits North Eastern Police Academy

Assam Director-General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta Tuesday visited North Eastern Police Academy – a premier Police Training Academy located at Umsaw Village, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya to inaugurate a specially designed Pre-promotion Cadre Course for Assam Police Sub Inspectors.

The duration of the training programme is 60 days. This year the Government of Assam has decided to send 549 police personnel to North Eastern Police Academy, in two batches. The first batch comprising 273 ASIs and HCs reported at the North Eastern Police Academy on September 13. After completing the mandatory quarantine period of trainees, the first batch was formally inaugurated by the DGP Assam.

Deepak Kumar, IPS, Director NEPA, in his welcome address thanked the DGP  for visiting the Academy, keeping aside all busy programmes.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta in his address appreciated Deepak Kumar, Director and the entire team of North Eastern Police Academy in making the training institute a center of excellence in police training. He also praised the Academy for creating excellent training infrastructure over the period of time.

The DGP reiterated the importance of training. While appreciating the infrastructure and faculty of NEPA, he exhorted the trainees to avail training facilities like FSL, etc, and sports/games facilities like Gym, etc. He also suggested that senior officers can be deputed to deliver classes on investigation, etc. Some workshop-oriented programme could also be organized. More emphasis was recommended to be given on crime against women, a crime against children, and the NDPS Act, as there is a huge rise in cases related to NDPS. He highlighted the importance of GD entry, case diaries and to make the training more practical oriented.

The DGP Assam was accompanied by Dr. L R Bishnoi, IPS, ADGP (T&AP), Assam. Bishnoi in his address appreciated the infrastructure and the faculty of NEPA and urged the trainees to avail of the facilities.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta also inaugurated the Unakoti Mess recently constructed by CPWD to accommodate in-service officers who come to NEPA for different in-service courses. This mess has the capacity of 60 rooms with all allied facilities.
