Assam Police picked up eight foreign nationals from the Hailakandi district. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Assam Police was able to apprehend eight Rohingyas belonging to the neighbouring country of Myanmar.

According to reports, the Rohingyas had reached Hailakandi from Kashmir. The arrestees include three children and one woman.

They were found hiding at one Yusuf Ali Majumdar’s home in the Mazarpar area, Hailakandi. The police have also arrested Islamuddin, brother of Yusuf Ali for providing shelter to these Rohingyas.

“The police received information that a few Myanmar nationals (Rohingyas) had taken shelter at one Yusuf Ali Majumdar’s house in Mazarpar, under Algapur Police Station. After questioning and checking their documents, eight persons, including kids, were arrested and brought to the police station. We have come to know that they arrived from Kashmir and are originally from Myanmar. Yusuf Ali is on the run but we have arrested his brother,” an Assam Police official said.
