In a first for North-East India, the Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has set up an Eye Bank.
Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the Eye Bank at GMCH, however, the inauguration date has not yet been fixed.
Speaking to media, a senior official of GMCH stated, “This will be the first-ever Eye Bank in the entire North-East region. Family members can donate the eyes of the deceased after the six hours of death. This initiative can save the vision of two Corneal Blind people.”
Authorities of GMCH have already opened up a Help Desk specially for the Eye Bank and people can reach out to the Help Desk at 8822380763 and 8822377199.
