The mysterious death of one Ajanta Lahkar in Delhi has created sensation in and around her hometown of Doomdooma. The locals have demanded a CBI probe in this regard and requested the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to coordinate with the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the centre for a swift and fair investigation.
According to reports, Ajanta and then-fiance Abhijeet Dhar came to Doomdooma in the first week of September, and on September 11, Ajanta’s family organized her social marriage with Abhijeet at the Radha Krishna Temple in Tinsukia and the couple returned to Delhi again after their marriage on September 24.
On the day of October 5, Abhijeet’s family put Ajanta’s family in a state of shock when they informed them that Ajanta had committed suicide by hanging in the ceiling fan of the bathroom.
However, Ajanta’s family smelled some conspiracy in the suicide and told the local scribes that the girl who talked to her family through video call on October 4 was in a jolly mood and could not commit suicide.
Ajanta’s father filed an FIR in Doomdooma Police Station alleging the murder of Abhijeet and his family.
Reports say that Ajanta’s elder sister and a maternal uncle reached Abhijeet’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday evening and found the utensils scattered in the kitchen, the mirror in their room broken, and marks of in-jury on Abhijeet’s body. They also witnessed injury marks on various parts of the deceased’s body.
Based on the FIR filed by the Ajanta’s family, Delhi Police arrested Abhijeet and brought his mother Kalpana Dhar (62) and married elder sister Sushmita Das (42) to the PS for interrogation.
Meanwhlie, after postmortem, the body of the deceased was brought to her parental house and cremated at the Doomdooma Public Cremation Ground, on Thursday afternoon. The people of Sookreting No. 8 area brought out a huge protest rally under the aegis of the Kalita Janagosthi Mohila Parishad against the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
