Assam Government Suspends IPR Officer For “Negligence of Duty”

Guwahati, 16th June: The Government of Assam has suspended Smti. Indrani Goswami, the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations (DDIPR) of Barak Valley region for negligence of duty. In the order, it was stated that “Indrani Goswami remained absent from her duty without obtaining prior permission from competent authority” on June 4,2020, the day when Assam Chief Minister Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal visited Silchar.

On June 4, the Chief Minister of Assam visited Silchar to evaluate the situation in the wake of landslides in Barak Valley districts and held an important meeting in the office of the Cachar Deputy Commissioner.

Due to Goswami’s absence, serious mismanagement took place regarding media persons who came to cover the programme of the Assam Chief Minister. A number of media persons got agiated and left the event causing much embarrassement to the government.

The Assam Government through an order (Memo No. IPRD.88/2002/340-A) dated on June 15,2020, suspended Indrani Goswami with immediate effect. The senior IPR officer was placed on suspension under Rule 6(1)(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964.
