Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that five Sainik Schools will be constructed in Assam shortly through a public-private partnership. Silchar, Kokrajhar, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dhemaji will all have Sainik Schools.
During a press conference, Pegu stated that the process had already begun. ”As many as 22 Sainik schools are there across India. The Union Ministry of Defence is mulling establishing Sainik Schools in PPP mode. With this, we have decided to set up five such schools in our state.”
”The land has been allotted for the same, and other formalities are in process,” he added. Commenting on the distribution of scooters to HS graduates, the minister stated that the reward is provided every year with fresh modified regulations.
Pegu had previously stated in June of this year that pupils who received first division in their Higher Secondary tests would receive a scooter. ”Earlier, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that students securing first division in HSLC and HS would be given a scooter. The scooter will be given on the basis of cut-off marks,” Pegu stated, according to media sources.
He also stated that scooters were distributed to kids last year based on a set of cut-off marks, and that the same procedure will be followed this year under the same conditions. The Chief Minister will decide how to keep the Anundoram Borooah award for first-division holders going forward.
The Assam Upper Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) issued the higher secondary (HS) results in June, with the Arts passing percentage at 83.48%, Commerce at 87.26%, and Science at 92.19%.
Around 156107 students took the HS exam in the Arts stream, and 130324 (or 83.48% of them) passed. Cherry Gohain of Women’s College Tinsukia and Sadhana Devi of Kamrupa Girls’ Senior Secondary School both received 487 marks in the Arts Stream.
