Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that a ‘Development Fortnight’ will be observed from December 5 to 18, during which several development projects will be launched across the state.
This was one of several announcements made by the Assam Chief Minister during his media address in Silchar at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district.
According to CM Sarma, the fortnight will begin with the start of construction work on a medical college in Bongaigaon. The project will cost Rs 1,000 crores to build.
Similarly, a programme commemorating the occasion will be held on December 6 at Nalbari. Morigaon will host them on December 8, with Golaghat following on December 9.
The Assam Chief Minister also stated that construction work for several projects will begin in Biswanath on December 10. Similarly, on December 15, the focus will shift to Dibrugarh, and on December 16, to Jorhat.
Furthermore, the second phase of the ‘Development Fortnight’ will be held from December 5 to 20, he added, mentioning that plans for the construction of three new flyovers in Guwahati were in the works.
Moving on to the unfortunate incident of ragging that occurred at Dibrugarh University, CM Sarma stated, “The university authorities will also come under the purview of the investigation. If there is any attempt to conceal information from the investigators, it will be dealt with seriously.”
The CM also stated that the arrest of any authority would not be out of the question and could be a real possibility during the investigation.
Following that, CM Sarma focused on the Assam government’s flagship ‘Orunodoi Scheme.’ He stated that the scheme will attempt to include more beneficiaries in subsequent phases.
The Assam government will allocate Rs 4,000 crores from its budget to the scheme, which will provide financial assistance. The application process will begin on January 7, 2023, according to CM Sarma.
