Assam Govt aims to vaccinate 18 lakh teens

A target of 18.25 lakh teens between the age of 15 to 18 years has been set by Assam as the COVID vaccination under the age of 18 years is set to begin in the state early next month.

The teens will be dozed with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin in the initial stage. A senior official of the health department has informed the Times of India that adequate amount of COVAXIN is available for the children in the state.

In addition to the existing COVID vaccination centres, school campuses may be selected for the vaccination drive as 80% percent of the children to be vaccinated are enrolled in schools.

However, the biggest challenge for the government will be to bring out the dropouts for vaccination as their data may not be available with the educational institutions.

Meanwhile, the state government is awaiting for Tuesday’s video conference with the centre to finalize the vaccination policy.
