Assam government had launched the Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widow Support Scheme for widows permanently residing in Assam who lost their husbands to COVID-19. As per the scheme, the government will provide a one-time financial aid of Rs. 2.5 lakh to the widows with an aim to provide social and financial security.

The husband of the beneficiary of the scheme should have been a COVID-19 patient at the time of death and it should be certified by the State-level COVID Death Audit Board. In addition, the beneficiary must belong to a low-income family having an annual income of up to Rs 5 lakh. The scheme also caters to the beneficiaries of ‘Orunudoi’ and ‘Widow Pension’ schemes.
However, the COVID-19 Widow Support Scheme will not be able available for widows of government employees.
The Deputy Commissioner shall compile the list of eligible beneficiaries from the NHM database of COVID victims. The list will be verified keeping in mind the eligibility criteria. On verification, the money will be disbursed to the beneficiaries’ accounts.
Any person, who meets the eligibility criteria and is not a part of the final list, can submit representation with supporting documents to the DC concerned.
