Assam Govt. to Take up Developmental Projects Worth Rs. 10,000 crore

Guwahati: Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a press meet at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on Saturday.

In the press meet, the health minster made some interesting revelations.

Dr. Sarma announced that a slew of developmental projects will be taken up by the Government of Assam in the coming few months with the polls due in 7 months. The projects are estimated to cost the state exchequer around Rs. 10,000 crores.

The Health Minister also stated that the construction of 4 medical colleges shall soon be started. The hospitals will be in Charaideo, Biswanath Chariali, and Goalpara. In addition, the government has also planned to start a new medical college in Guwahati by combining the MMCH and Kalapahar TB Hospital, which will be the largest medical college in the entire Northeast. The Government has allocated funds to the tune of Rs. 2,500 for the development of this upcoming project.

Dr. Sarma further added that work will also begin on 10 new law colleges in Assam. The work is estimated at a cost of Rs. 33 crore.

He also announced the construction of a new flyover in Guwahati’s Maligaon Chariali, which will connect to the new route towards the historic ‘Kamakhya’ temple.

In the press meet, the health minister announced that 55,000 hemodialysis sessions have been arranged by the government under the Prime Minister’s scheme.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that many roads will also be built by the government in the upcoming period as it ramps up developmental activities after a months-long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
