Education Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday distributed scooters among the meritorious girl students at Musalpur, Baksa district.
The distribution of the scooters is under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award scheme of the Assam government. Under the scheme, girl students who had passed Higher Secondary (HS) examination with first division from Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be provided with scooters.
This year, from the Baksa district, around 500 students received scooters.
Along with the Education Minister, BJP MP Naba Kumar Sarania and BJP National General Secretary Dilip Saikia, and many other dignitaries were present during the distribution ceremony. The scheme was launched on December 20 at a program in Amingaon, Kamrup district by the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Sarma highlighted the Assam Government’s initiative to promote the importance of female education in the state.
Earlier on November 30, the Finance Minister during a press conference announced that a total of 37,000 girls who secured first division in Assam State Higher Secondary (HS) examination will be provided with scooters by the state government.
